Manasquan

Well the weather forecast has been true to its word. Did not get much rain but this afternoon it has started to blow. Hoping to get out of Manasquan early tomorrow for Cape May. Then we are hoping to be able to catch a favourable tide up the Delaware Bay and the C&D Canal on Friday.

The trip down the Hudson was beautiful, with the weather co operating and also the tide for most of the time. Left Kingston at 0630 hrs. and finally put into Manasquan at about 2130 hrs, as the wind was picking up and was right on the nose. Were hoping to make Cape May by this morning, but the weather was not going to co operate.

There follows a series of pictures taken coming out of the Erie Canal and the Hudson River.

The last two pictures are Manasquan.

Hope to leave for Cape May real early tomorrow morning.

Stopped for the night..

Well we had planned on heading through the night to Cape May but it was a little uncomfortable with building swells right on the bow. Discretion being the better part of valour suggested holing up in Manasquan.

Just docked up and closing down for a good night's sleep before seeing if the gale warning is going to be realised tomorrow. It's been a long day - so pictures will have wait til tomorrow!

Crossing West Point

We are passing West Point (around 1045) and heading as fas as possible (head current is slowing us down to around 6.9 knots).

Absolutely gorgeous day here!!

Early morning on the Hudson

Very nice morning on the Hudson - if a little brisk. Forecast for today is nice but we aren't sure what tonight will bring. If the forecast is OK we may push on around New Jersey.

Had a good night in Kingston, nice meal and a quick re-provisioning run at Price-Rite. Should be in good shape to press on.

Hudson Athens Lighthouse

Sunday's Pictures

Started off this morning in the dark and the morning was dreary and cold, so the photos are taken this afternoon, when the sun came out.

Fish for dinner

We decided to troll for dinner and caught a rather nice piece of Wegmann's Salmon! Planning on cooking it up in a few minutes!!

After a full day of travel, we made it as far as the lock opening hours would let us. We actually went from Ilion as far as Schenectady Yacht Club or a total of 72.4 miles along the Canal. Today's travel included a vertical drop of 177' over a total of 11 locks. We are currently only about 13 miles from the Hudson (still have 7 locks to go) and hope to get into the Hudson by mid morning tomorrow.

The boat was in dire need of a bath by the time we got here - between leaves from Ess Kay and dirt from the various lock walls - she was looking more like a tug boat than her normal self. Brushes, soap, hoses and elbow grease were applied and she looks much cleaner and smarter. We even managed to clean off the fenders - which is a good thing since they were rather caked in Lock Dirt..

The Schenectady Yacht Club has surprised us. Pulling up - it would appear that this is a rather small "club" with fairly limited dockage. The clubhouse is a small shack on the shore side - the construction of which might not suggest that there actually is a Wi-Fi setup (which I'm using)!

We will be off early again tomorrow morning - 6:30 this time since we only have 3 miles to the next lock.

Early start

An early start today - left Ilion around 0615 and were at Lock 18 (20') by 0700. It was early enough to crank up the spotlight that has never been used as yet!

Then we headed to Lock 17 which has the largest vertical drop (41'). Rather impressive - particularly the drop gate on the eastern end.

Approaching Lock 16 now - making good time - it's only 0830!
