Spent Thursday night in Gananoque and had a lovely dinner at the Gananoque Inn & Spa. Best rack of lamb for sometime. The next morning was cold and gloomy. Had some rain over night but the weak front had gone through and the forecast was for it to improve. We decided we would spend our last night on the hook, and put down the anchor on the south side of Bostwick Island as it was forecast to blow up to 25kts from the NNE. By this time the clouds had cleared and we were bathed in bright sunshine, that we had been blessed with since the start of the cruise.
We were joined by three others boats in the cruise (Blue Moon, Traveller & Robin Nest II) and everyone was invited to cocktails on Seaweed at 5:30pm. A good time was had by all.
As can be seen, the 25kts did not arrive and the following morning the sunrise was beautiful. We were really glad that we took the opportunity to spend our last night on the hook.
We pulled up anchor at 8:00am (weed and all) and steamed for two hours to Kingston arriving just before 10:00am. We then took a trolley tour of Kingston which was not only interesting, but very informative. After that a lunch at a deli/cafe, insisting that we have a table in the sunshine. Out of the sun it was chilly!
In the evening was the closing cruise dinner in the Town Hall. The dinner was held in one of the Ball Rooms and we were entertained by a bagpiper, the Town Crier, and after dinner, Dawn Langstroth, the daughter of Anne Murray. She was very special and has a beautiful voice. Unfortunately I had left my photo card in the computer, so with out it the camera would not work.
Sunday Morning
The cruise ends and Colin & Peggy leave for Bermuda (Colin) and Nova Scotia (Peggy). Jill & Stephen depart for Oswego at 10:00am and after 6 hours at 8+ kts we arrived in Oswego at 4:00pm Sunday afternoon.
Bye Bye Canada
US here we come!(You might be able to make out the nuclear power plant at 9 Mile Point)
Our crossing was very smooth with a 10kts breeze out of the South to start going light and East. Did not need the stablisers! Very little activity with only one freighter crossing our bow by about five miles
We will be in Brewerton tomorrow where the boat will stay until 2nd October when it will then go back to the Chesapeake.
The summer in Lake Ontario has been very special. Although the weather in July and August was not the best, we certainly have been blessed with spectacular weather in September. The 1000 Islands are one of the most beautiful locations and with the great weather and superbly organised cruise, it was certainly a wonderful experience that one would not mind repeating.
